Today I have the pleasure of interviewing TotemPole, a super talented artist and creator of the adult comic series The Cummoner. TotemPole is one of latest adult comic artists to join the MiKandi Adult Comic Platform, and we’re excited to share this fantastic series with our readers. Vilga the Sorceress is one hot little witch!
Read on to learn more about TotemPole, his work, and other artists who inspire him.
What or who inspired you to take the step into erotic artwork and adult comics?
There are two artists whose work had an influence here. One of them is a Polish creator drawing both regular comics and also publishing erotica under the pseudonym Au- he draws a comic strip “Boli blog” and a series called “Lust Boat” that has been serialized on the web and published on paper here in Poland. But the artist who really made me start drawing erotica is the fantastic Joel Jurion – a french BD creator who does quite a bit of erotic comics and illustrations on the side. It was by following his Deviantart account that I discovered Hentaifoundry where I got my start. It all began as a way to support my freelance income, but as soon as I moved from illustrations to comics I knew it was something that gave me a lot of satisfaction and I was hooked.
Can you describe your art station set up? What tools do you use?
I used to draw with ink and brush and I experimented with some watercolours, but I have been working exclusively in digital for a few years now. I use a PC with Wacom Cintiq 24HD and Adobe Photoshop for my comics and Adobe Flash for animation. I also use a second display for reference, colour checking (Cintiq displays are a bit darker by design, because you work with your face practically glued to them) and an occasional Tv-show.
Who’s your favorite character to draw?
Other than Vilga, who’s the main character and obviously one of my favourites, I have a soft spot for a nameless Wind Fairy that Tuck encounters in chapter 5- she was a nice break from drawing Vilga, has a different body-build and is generally pretty fun. Other than that, I really like designing the demons, most of which are a variation on existing monsters.
Who are some artists or creators that inspire you?
I have incredible respect for artists drawing their own stories- I adore Bryan Lee O’Malley‘s Seconds, Faith Erin Hicks‘ graphic novels, Kukuburi by Ramon Perez. I’m stunned by Tony Cliff‘s work and I would be proud to one day create a comic the quality of his Delilah Dirk. When it comes to erotica I love some of Incase‘s work, even if not all of it is in my comfort zone. OptionalTypo has wonderful versatility and skill and there are more than a few of japanese hentai artists that have style and a grasp on drawing human anatomy that boggles the mind.
What are you working on right now?
When it comes to art, I run two webcomics – The Cummoner and a bit more SFW one called Stick in the Mud, both written and drawn by me.
What are some of your upcoming projects?
I’ve been working on two stories that could one day be turned into comic albums, but it’s an ambitious goal when running two webcomics. I guess there’s nothing solid I could share right now.
1The Cummoner #1 – First Time for Everything
The first adventure of Vilga the Sorceress, visiting the city after the disappearance of her master. Little does she know that the Paladins of the Holy Key have a habit of capturing and burning witches..
2The Cummoner #2 – Witch Morwena
After fleeing the Paladin dungeons with her new companion – Tuckerby, Vilga travels away from the city on a broomstick. She promptly crashes it the next day and finds herself facing a vine monster. She might learn, that one thing more dangerous than beasts are their masters.
3The Cummoner #3 – Bondage
What happens when Vilga meets another magic practitioner- a powerful witch, Morwena?
4The Cummoner #4 – Hard Lesson
Vilga decides to put her newly acquired magical books to use. She summons a creature to fulfill her desires, but she’s about to learn a Hard Lesson when it comes to reading small print.
5The Cummoner #5 – Tuck’s Night Out
While Vilga is busy entertaining one of her many summons, Tuck takes a walk through the forest and encounters a waterfall… as well as a wind fairy.
