Digital assistants are disembodied female voices that you order around. Alexa, what time is it? Okay Google, call me an Uber. Alexa, tell me a joke. Okay Google, read some erotica to me.

Wait, what?

While you can’t currently ask Google Home to read you erotica, with that kind of master/servant dynamic already built in to the experience, it should come as no surprise that certain kinksters have been tempted to take Alexa to a Rated X place. And that’s exactly what one hobbyist who goes by the name Deviant Designs — given name, Gary — has done.

Gary took Amazon’s digital assistant, Alexa, and transformed into “Mistress Alexa” by piecing together an Echo Dot with a Raspberry Pi and bolting them on to an Arduino, Engadget reports. A wire then runs from the device to a an electric shock dog collar, which has been taken apart to create shock clamps that fit on the vulva via thin plastic strips.

If commanded, “Alex, punish,” Mistress Alexa starts the process by asking “Has the slut been naughty?” Depending on the human answer, Mistress Alexa will release a string of
punishments: “Yes,” brings one shock; “No,” causes Mistress Alexa to ask why you’re wasting her time; and “Extremely” leads to a minutes of randomly administered shocks.

Mistress Alexa currently has one other mode of punishment: A random countdown mode that forces the submissive to pay constant attention to their Mistress. The submissive is required to ask Alexa to reset a clock when an LED on the device’s 3D-printed housing starts flashing. If they miss it, they get shocked.

Those are the only two punishments that Mistress Alexa can currently mete out, and they’re designed specifically to fit the kinks of Gary’s partner, Kirsty, a professional dominatrix and latex designer. But that doesn’t mean that he won’t create more or that someone with more technical knowledge than Gary — who fully admits that he’s not terribly skilled in the tech department — couldn’t come up with more advanced ones of their own.

Also, hilariously, during a public demonstration of Mistress Alexa’s abilities, the device misheard “Polish” instead of “punish” and instead of blocking a shock, it started listing nearby Polish restaurants. Anyone with a Google assistant — even the much maligned Siri — knows that game. But Kirsty apparently dug it, telling Engadget that the inevitable flaws of new AI technology made it more unpredictable and more exciting.

As these devices become more sophisticated and more present in people’s homes, I predict
that not only will technologically-inclined kinksters (of which there are many — the nerd overlap is real) hack Alexa to create their own sex toys, but people will develop full-on fetishes for their digital assistants. It’s not hard to imagine that some children and teenagers who grow up hearing these voices — and commanding them — will develop sexual feelings for them as well. Mistress Alexa, then, is just the first in what I expect will be a long line of digital girlfriends and playthings.
